What Is Gastric Sleeve Weight Loss Surgery?

The gastric sleeve is a minimally invasive surgery. It is done to treat overweight and obesity effectively. The objective of the procedure is to reduce the volume of the stomach, making the patient feel satisfied with a smaller amount of food. The procedure also causes hormonal changes, regulating adiponectin and ghrelin production.

It is also known as sleeve gastrectomy, a type of bariatric surgery or weight loss surgery in which the stomach is reduced to about 20% of its original size.

This technique is indicated for both obese and overweight patients with diseases associated with excess weight, such as high blood pressure, sleep apnea, erectile dysfunction, hypercholesterolemia, joint pain etc.

Procedure and recovery time

The duration of the gastric sleeve is approximately 40 minutes, requires one night of hospitalization. Recovery period is short; in approximately two days the patient returns to activities after discharge from the hospital.

Today, BARIATRIC SURGERY is the best choice for sustainable weight loss that lets patients achieve a healthy weight.
